Maize is widely cultivated throughout the world with acreage increase year after year. Worldwide production was 973.9 million Mt from 177.3 million ha (USDA, 2015-16). China is the largest maize production country and produces  225.0 million Mt from 37.9 million ha.

Biocentury started maize breeding program and seed business in 2010. Conventional germplasm improvement, inbred breeding and hybrid testing have been carried out in many breeding stations to be adapted to different geological and climate conditions. In addition, maize transformation, marker-assistant breeding and double-haploid technology have also been used to speed up the breeding process.
